Kazakhstan Launches Probe After Over 100 Caspian Seals Wash Ashore

Environmental inspectors in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region have discovered the bodies of 112 Caspian seals washed up along the country’s Caspian Sea coastline.

During a monitoring inspection of the Tupkaragan district shoreline - from the village of Asan to Bautino Cape - officials found the carcasses of the endangered marine mammals, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Authorities have collected seawater samples to determine the cause of the mass die-off, and an investigation is underway.
