Caspian Littoral States to Hold Meeting on Fish Resources in Turkmenistan in Late November

Jeyhun Aliyev, Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Center at Azerbaijan’s Agriculture Ministry, has said that at the end of November, representatives of Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Kazakhstan will meet in Ashgabat to discuss managing and preserving Caspian Sea fish resources, including exchanging data on fishing quotas for different species.

Aliyev said that the countries will discuss mechanisms for their fair distribution among Caspian littoral states, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

“The needs of fishermen in each country, as well as industrial infrastructure, will be taken into account,” Aliyev noted. “Until now, such research has been conducted only by Russia. This year, for the first time, Azerbaijan will present its own scientific findings and baseline data on the Caspian’s fish stocks.”

The upcoming meeting is expected to enhance regional cooperation in the sustainable management of marine resources, ensuring balanced fishing practices and long-term ecological stability in the Caspian Sea.
