Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are looking to expand cooperation in the consular sphere, including possible simplification of existing visa procedures.

A new round of consular consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries was held in Ashgabat. Azerbaijan’s delegation was led by Emil Safarov, head of the Consular Department, while Turkmenistan’s delegation was headed by Dovletmyrat Muratov, head of the Consular Services Department, according to the Turkmen foreign ministry.

Representatives of the Interior Ministries, Migration Service and Prosecutor General’s Office of Turkmenistan, as well as Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry and embassy staff, also took part in the discussions.

The sides reviewed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in consular affairs, with particular attention to the protection of citizens’ rights and interests and the possibility of making visa arrangements more convenient.

The consultations also covered cooperation in internal affairs, citizenship, migration, justice and education, along with other areas of mutual interest.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol. The two sides also agreed to hold the next round of consular consultations in Baku in 2027.
