Azerbaijan will assume the chairmanship of the Commission on Aquatic Bioresources of the Caspian Sea starting January 1, 2027.
The announcement was made by Murad Atajanov, Director of Turkmenistan’s Caspian Sea Institute, during panel discussions at the first Azerbaijan Regional Aquaculture Forum in Baku, according to Report.
Atajanov noted that Turkmenistan currently holds the commission’s chairmanship for 2025-2026.
“The next, 10th meeting is scheduled for December. From January 1 next year, the chairmanship will pass to Azerbaijan. This will create good opportunities for our Azerbaijani colleagues to further advance the regional aquaculture agenda during their 2027-2028 term,” he said.
The Commission on Aquatic Bioresources of the Caspian Sea was established in 1992 by four Caspian littoral states: Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. Iran joined the commission in 2002.
