Kazakhstan has become the leading country in Central Asia for ChatGPT adoption, according to new data presented by OpenAI during discussions with Kazakhstan’s government on the future of artificial intelligence.

The findings were shared during a meeting between OpenAI representatives and Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, Zhaslan Madiyev, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

The talks focused on expanding cooperation in AI, introducing ChatGPT Edu, launching educational initiatives, and strengthening practical AI skills among students, educators, and professionals.

OpenAI’s analysis indicates that Kazakhstan ranks among the countries with high levels of AI adoption and significantly outperforms other Central Asian nations in per capita use of the consumer version of ChatGPT. The results suggest that Kazakhstan’s population is well positioned to integrate advanced AI technologies into everyday life.

Madiyev said that Kazakh people are increasingly using artificial intelligence for education, professional tasks, information searches, and content creation, creating a strong foundation for broader AI implementation across business, education, and public administration.

Valerie Focke, OpenAI’s Head of International Education, described Kazakhstan as one of the countries actively embracing AI technologies. She highlighted the country’s high ChatGPT usage rates, strong engagement among younger users, and a relatively balanced distribution of usage between men and women.

The data shows that practical guidance, writing and editing assistance, and information searches are the most common uses of AI tools among Kazakh people. More than 42% of interactions involve information-seeking questions, while approximately 32% are task-oriented requests and 26% relate to self-expression.

Young people are driving AI adoption. Users aged 18-24 account for 36.2% of all messages, while those aged 25-34 generate 35.8%. Together, these age groups represent 72% of all ChatGPT interactions in the country.
