Kazakhstan Moves to Build Copper Foil Plant for Battery Industry

Kazakhstan is moving forward with plans to build a copper foil manufacturing plant using domestically produced raw materials, following a partnership agreement signed by two companies, Londian Wason New Energy Tech Inc. and NAIKAN Ltd.

The project was discussed during a meeting between First Deputy Prime Minister Nurlybek Nalibayev and company executives Zhou Guangling of Londian Wason and Alexandr Nigay of NAIKAN Ltd., Qazinform News Agency reports.

The proposed facility will manufacture copper foil from Kazakhstan-produced cathode copper, a material widely used in battery production, energy storage systems, and modern microelectronics.

Locally manufactured copper foil could also supply the Data Center Valley project in the Pavlodar region, creating additional opportunities for domestic industrial production.

The discussions focused on attracting foreign investment and advanced technologies, expanding local manufacturing capabilities, developing technical expertise, and integrating Kazakhstan-made products into global supply chains.

Nalibayev highlighted the government's commitment to moving away from a raw-material export model toward deeper processing and the production of higher-value-added goods.

Following the meeting, Londian Wason and NAIKAN Ltd. signed a partnership agreement to advance the construction of the copper foil plant in Kazakhstan.
