Shymkent city has announced plans to construct a new cultural and educational complex in the Abai region to mark the 180th anniversary of famous Kazakh poet and philosopher Abai.
The modern Art School will occupy up to 5,000 square meters and is expected to cost approximately 2 billion tenge ($3.707 million), The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Officials say the facility will become a key center for nurturing young talent, offering opportunities for creative development and additional education.
Commemorative events are also taking place across the country. In Petropavlovsk, a large mural depicting Abai has been unveiled on the wall of an academic building at Kozybayev University, serving as a visual tribute to his enduring influence on Kazakh culture.
Meanwhile, a special documentary film highlighting Abai’s life, works, and legacy will be released on August 10, coinciding with his birthday.
