Kazakhstan’s Weather Turns Volatile with Heat and Storm Alerts

Kazhydromet, the National Weather Service of Kazakhstan, has released its weather outlook, forecasting unstable weather conditions in many parts of the country.

A northwestern cyclone and its associated fronts are expected to bring rains and thunderstorms to most regions, with heavy showers predicted in the west and northwest, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

Hail is possible in some areas. Meanwhile, southern and eastern regions will remain largely dry and clear.

The storm system will also trigger strong winds, particularly in the western and southern regions, where dust storms may occur.

At the same time, a heatwave will push daytime temperatures to dangerous highs:

Mangistau: up to 38-39°C

Zhetysu and Almaty: 35-37°C

Zhambyl: around 38°C

Turkistan: 40-42°C

Kyzylorda: 40-43°C

Ulytau: 35-39°C

Karaganda, western Atyrau, southern Kostanay, Aktobe: around 35°C

In response to the extreme heat and dry conditions, high fire danger has been declared for East Kazakhstan, Abai, parts of Kostanay, Karaganda, Atyrau, Akmola, and Pavlodar regions.

Additionally, extreme fire risk warnings are in effect for a wide swath of the country, including Mangistau, Kyzylorda, Turkistan, Almaty, Zhambyl, Zhetysu, Ulytau, and large areas of Atyrau, Karaganda, Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, Kostanay, and Abai.
