Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan to Boost Agricultural Trade and Launch New Joint Projects

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov have agreed to significantly expand agricultural trade and deepen cooperation across key sectors.

Speaking at a media briefing in Astana, Tokayev highlighted agriculture as one of the main pillars of the bilateral partnership, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

He noted that both sides see strong potential for increasing Kazakh wheat exports to Turkmenistan, along with expanding supplies of vegetable oils, pasta, dairy, and meat products. The presidents also discussed plans to build a grain terminal on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan border to enhance regional food logistics.

Tokayev emphasized continued collaboration in the energy sector, pointing out Kazakhstan’s longstanding role in transporting Turkmen natural gas to China. The two countries agreed to advance joint gas processing projects and expand gas transportation infrastructure - efforts supported by last year’s Agreement on Strategic Cooperation in the Gas Sector.

Kazakhstan also invited Turkmenistan to cooperate on digitalization and public-service technology, leveraging its experience in modern e-government systems.

For his part, Berdimuhamedov underlined Turkmenistan’s commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership.

He said the discussions focused on boosting trade and economic ties, diversifying trade flows, and implementing large-scale industrial cooperation projects with active participation from business communities in both countries.

Berdimuhamedov added that Turkmenistan sees major opportunities for new collaboration in electricity generation, the chemical industry, and transport and logistics. He stressed the importance of expanding the efficiency of the East-West and North-South transit corridors amid shifting geopolitical and economic conditions.
