President Tokayev: Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan Trade Quadruples in Five Years

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has announced that mutual trade between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan surged more than fourfold over the past five years.

President Tokayev made these remarks during extended bilateral talks with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the Akorda Palace, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

The Kazakh leader emphasized that Kazakhstan attaches exceptional importance to Berdimuhamedov’s state visit, which he said will elevate the multifaceted partnership between the two countries to a new level. Built on centuries-old friendship, good-neighborliness, and shared cultural traditions, relations between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan continue strengthening under the spirit of strategic partnership.

He noted that cooperation between the two nations has become productive across all levels of government. The presidents also highlighted their shared views on key regional and international issues, underscoring the depth of their diplomatic alignment.

A major focus of the talks was trade and economic cooperation. President Tokayev revealed that bilateral trade now exceeds $500 million - more than four times higher than five years ago. Around 140 companies with Turkmen capital are currently operating in Kazakhstan, playing a significant role in boosting economic ties. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s investments in Turkmenistan have surpassed $120 million.

The leaders agreed to continue expanding trade, investment, and cross-border collaboration as both countries pursue stronger economic integration in Central Asia.
