Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are set to introduce cross-border QR-code payments under a memorandum of cooperation signed between the National Payment Corporation of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan’s HUMO payment system during the Central Asia FinTech Summit 2026 in Almaty.

Under the agreement, the two countries will enable mutual acceptance of their national QR codes, The Caspian Post reports, citing Qazinform.

Uzbek citizens will be able to pay for goods and services in Kazakhstan using the country’s national QR system, while Kazakh citizens will be able to make payments in Uzbekistan through the unified national UzQR system.

Another key initiative involves the development of cross-border money transfers, allowing users to send funds directly to bank cards in the neighboring country through mobile banking applications.

The memorandum also provides for cooperation in exchanging information and technology, as well as exploring further opportunities in payment innovations.
