Kazakhstan Welcomes Tourists with QR Code Cards at Airports and Borders

Kazakhstan has introduced new measures to enhance the safety and convenience of foreign travelers, distributing QR code cards at major entry points, including the airports of Astana and Almaty, as well as the Kaplanbek border checkpoint in the Turkistan Region.

The QR codes link visitors to SafeTravel.kz, a multilingual online platform offering up-to-date safety advice, travel tips, and access to essential mobile applications, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

Officials say the initiative is already delivering positive results by helping tourists feel more informed and secure during their stay in the country.

In a further step to improve the travel experience, Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerbol Myrzabossynov recently proposed offering free SIM cards to arriving tourists, ensuring they have instant access to mobile internet and communication services.

The minister also highlighted that international airports are now equipped with QR code systems providing verified information about legal taxi services, accommodation, eSIM providers, and local attractions. However, he noted a critical gap in nighttime transportation, as most airports currently lack bus services to city centers after dark. To address this, he proposed launching night express bus routes at all international airports.
