Montenegro May Open Diplomatic Office in Kazakhstan

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has expressed Kazakhstan’s interest in seeing Montenegro establish a diplomatic mission in Astana, underscoring the growing partnership between the two countries.

The proposal was made during expanded talks with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, who is on an official visit to Kazakhstan, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

Tokayev noted that relations between Kazakhstan and Montenegro have strengthened steadily in recent years, supported by active political dialogue, regular diplomatic consultations, and increasing cooperation across multiple sectors.

The Kazakh leader highlighted the recent opening of Kazakhstan’s Consulate General in Podgorica as a sign of Astana’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties and said a Montenegrin diplomatic presence in Kazakhstan would further strengthen the institutional foundations of the partnership.

Tokayev also thanked Montenegro for opening the Abai Center at the National Library of Montenegro to mark the 180th anniversary of the renowned Kazakh poet and philosopher Abai Kunanbayev.

Tourism was another key topic during the talks. The Kazakh president noted that an increasing number of Kazakh travelers are visiting Montenegro and returning with positive impressions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and expanding people-to-people exchanges.
