Renowned Chinese singer Zhang Hexuan, who rose to fame after competing on The Voice of China in 2012, has arrived in Astana to take part in Silk Way Star, an international vocal competition featuring artists from 12 Asian countries.
Born on October 7, 1985 in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, Zhang earned his degree in vocal performance from the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
He first caught national attention in 2009 when he became a finalist in China’s prestigious Golden Bell Awards.
In 2013, Zhang released his debut album Manifest (宣言) and was honored with the New Influence Male Singer award at the 17th Channel V Awards. He has also been active in social initiatives; in 2016 he became ambassador for the Spring Bud Lunch program, which supports schoolchildren.
Zhang’s performances can be found on streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify, helping him maintain an international audience.
Silk Way Star commenced filming on August 20, 2025, with its grand finale scheduled to take place live on November 22, to be broadcast across major TV channels in participating countries.
Kazakhstan will be represented by ALEM (Batyrkhan Malikov), a prominent singer, songwriter, and composer.
