Kazakhstan has earned a spot among Vogue’s 14 best travel destinations of 2025, joining a prestigious list curated by the magazine’s editors based on their most memorable journeys of the past year.
The Central Asian country caught Vogue’s attention through the experience of Ali Farooqui, Vogue’s manager of creative development, who visited Almaty after seeing the city repeatedly appear in his social media feed, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
His journey, which involved two layovers and more than 30 hours of travel, turned into a revelation.
“A place that rarely tops anyone’s list, though it should,” Farooqui wrote, describing his first impressions of Almaty.
According to Vogue, Kazakhstan stands out for its rare blend of modern urban life, dramatic natural landscapes, and strong cultural identity. The article highlights Almaty’s striking architecture, lively public spaces, and its close proximity to the Zailiysky Alatau mountains, which frame the city with snow-capped peaks.
Kazakh national cuisine also left a lasting impression. Farooqui singled out beshbarmak, calling the traditional dish of tender meat and hand-rolled noodles unexpectedly comforting and unforgettable.
Kazakhstan now shares the spotlight with global favorites such as Mexico City, Copenhagen, London, Barcelona, Sardinia, Palm Springs, the Greek islands of Sifnos and Serifos, the Champagne region of France, and Kyrgyzstan, reinforcing its growing reputation as a must-visit destination in 2025.
