Winter Sparks Career Reflections Among Many Kazakhs

For many Kazakhs, winter sparks thoughts about changing jobs, but research shows it’s not the season itself that drives the decision-it’s a reassessment of personal goals and expectations.

A survey of over 1,300 residents revealed that for 41 per cent, winter has no impact on their desire to switch jobs, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Nearly a third see the start of the year as a “fresh start” or a time to reflect, while 14 per cent feel financial pressure after the holidays and 11 per cent experience fatigue. Career changes are most often considered when setting annual goals (49 per cent), after discussions or conflicts with management (27 per cent), or by comparing themselves to others’ success (16 per cent).

Moving from thoughts to action usually happens when a suitable job opening appears-52 per cent of respondents said this was key. For others, a clear career goal or awareness of their market value drives the decision.

Most Kazakhs approach job changes as deliberate choices: 39 per cent call it rational, while 37 per cent say it’s a mix of calculation and emotion. During winter, job seekers prefer a calm, strategic approach-nearly half apply selectively, 23 per cent just monitor the market, and only 15 per cent actively search.
