Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan have begun the first round of negotiations on the intergovernmental agreement for the Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant, a major regional energy initiative.
The talks, held in Bishkek from March 31 to April 2, brought together top officials: Deputy Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Altynbek Rysbekov, Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Sungat Yesimkhanov, and Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Umid Mamadaminov, alongside representatives from relevant ministries and departments, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
Officials also noted the involvement of the World Bank as a strategic partner and one of the potential international financiers for the project.
The Kambarata-1 HPP, set on Kyrgyzstan’s Naryn River, is designed to generate 1,880 MW of power, making it one of the region’s largest hydropower projects.
The project aims to strengthen regional energy security and promote cooperation among Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
