Kazakhstan’s national team claimed six medals at the prestigious 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), held this year in Australia, showcasing the academic excellence of the country’s young talent on a global stage.
The Olympiad gathered more than 650 of the world’s brightest high school mathematicians from 112 countries, competing in one of the most challenging subject contests internationally, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
The Kazakh team brought home four silver and two bronze medals. Miron Yurkevich, Amirlan Amanzholov, and Amir Sakhipov from Almaty, along with Margulan Sharel from Astana, secured silver. Yerassyl Altynbek and Yerkanat Kenshilik won bronze.
Kazakhstan has been participating in the IMO since 1993, and its students have now accumulated a total of 152 medals: 16 gold, 55 silver, and 81 bronze.
This success follows another academic achievement for Kazakhstan this year: a student from Astana recently won two medals at the 2025 International Physics Olympiad.
