Kyrgyzstan’s Ambassador to the US Edil Baisalov has proposed considering the introduction of a visa regime for US citizens, with a potential visa fee of $100 to $200.

Baisalov said that Kyrgyzstan could introduce reciprocal visa requirements in response to changes in US visa policy, according to economist.kg.

“We can be admitted or not admitted, and under what conditions - that is their sovereign right. At the same time, we should also introduce a visa and charge $100 or $200 from American citizens who want to visit,” the diplomat said.

Baisalov said that such a fee would not significantly affect the number of American tourists visiting Kyrgyzstan.

He also called on Kyrgyz citizens to approach changes in US visa policy with understanding, while stressing the need to address the number of Kyrgyz nationals residing illegally in the US.

“Nevertheless, as I have noted before, we need to address the issue of the number of our citizens illegally residing in the US and achieve a reduction in this figure,” the ambassador added.
