Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has signed a decree setting December 18, 2026, as the date for the country’s Fifth People’s Kurultai, which will be held in Bishkek.

The decree provides for the election of 700 delegates to the national gathering. It also establishes quotas for delegate representation, approves the organizing committee and introduces temporary regulations governing the Kurultai’s activities, according to AKIpress.

The procedure for electing delegates will be based on rules developed and approved by the National Council of the IV People’s Kurultai.

The organizing committee has been tasked with coordinating the delegate elections, making the necessary decisions and ensuring the Kurultai is held successfully. Representatives of government agencies, local authorities and experts will take part in preparations.

Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry has also been instructed to maintain public order and security during the delegate elections across the country.

The presidential decree takes effect from the day it is officially published.
