Kyrgyzstan Awards Kambarata HPP-2 Unit 2 Construction to Chinese Firm

Chinese company Sinohydro has won the tender to construct the second hydropower unit at Kyrgyzstan’s Kambarata HPP-2.

The tender, launched on June 27, 2024, received bids from five companies in October, all following international procurement standards, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

After evaluation, Sinohydro Bureau 16 - a joint venture of Sinohydro (China) - was selected for offering the most favorable terms and demonstrating strong technical expertise. The contract was officially signed on September 9.

Sinohydro, a state-owned Chinese company and a major subsidiary of the Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), specializes in the design, construction, and operation of hydropower and large-scale infrastructure projects. Its core areas include constructing hydropower plants and dams, implementing bridges, roads, and tunnels, engineering energy and water management facilities, and providing project management and technical maintenance.

Kyrgyz authorities have maintained interest in partnering with Sinohydro since 2011, citing the company’s plans to develop several hydropower projects along the Naryn River.
