Kyrgyzstan Ranks Among Top Five Importers of South Korean Cars

Kyrgyzstan purchased cars from South Korea for $224.3 million in March 2025.

Kyrgyzstan surpassed Great Britain in the number of purchased cars ($205.7 million) and took 4th place, behind only the United States ($2.8 billion), Canada ($487.2 million) and Australia ($226.6 million), The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.

For comparison, Russia, despite the growth in demand, took only 12th place.

At the same time, in the first quarter of 2025, Kyrgyzstan took second place among countries supplying new cars to the Russian market, executive director of the Avtostat agency Sergey Udalov said at the FinAuto-2025 forum, Autonews.ru reports.

He said that 71.9 thousand new cars were imported to Russia in January-March - 66% less than in the same period last year. Of these, 5.1% fell to the share of Kyrgyzstan. Only China is higher with a share of 85.3%.

According to the Izvestia newspaper, in 2024, the number of new cars imported to Russia from the EAEU countries amounted to more than 180 thousand units. A considerable part of them were imported from Belarus and Kyrgyzstan, Maxim Agadzhanov, managing director of the Alfa-Leasing Group, told the Izvestia editorial board. The expert is confident that due to the indexation of the recycling fee from January 1, 2025, and the upcoming adjustment of its calculation on May 1 of this year, the import of cars into the EAEU zone, including Russia, is becoming less profitable, which is already shown by the results of the first quarter of 2025.
