Russia Expresses Readiness to Aid Kyrgyzstan in CSTO Presidency

Russia has affirmed its willingness to provide any necessary assistance to Kyrgyzstan during its Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) presidency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart Jeenbek Kulubayev, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.

"This year, our Kyrgyz friends hold the presidency of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, and I am grateful to Jeenbek Moldokanovich [Kulubayev] for giving a detailed briefing on Bishkek’s plans and priorities in light of it," he noted. "We support these plans and priorities and today we have affirmed Russia’s readiness to provide any assistance to the work dictated by this position."

On January 1, 2025, the presidency of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) officially transitioned from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov said that during its presidency in the organization, the republic intends to develop its peacekeeping capacity, as well as work to prevent the use of modern information technologies by extremist and terrorist groups.

Kyrgyzstan also plans to pay special attention to the matter of improving dialogue with various international organizations, as well as with a number of nations, which are interested in the strengthening of peace and security, much the same as the CSTO countries. This includes partnership with the relevant Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) mechanisms.
