Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is in Turkmenistan on a working visit, held bilateral talks with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“Following the official dinner, Putin held a bilateral meeting with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The heads of state discussed key current issues concerning the dynamically developing bilateral Russian-Turkmen relations,” Peskov said, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.
The meeting took place at the Avaza complex.
Avaza is a national tourist zone on Turkmenistan’s Caspian Sea coast, near the city of Turkmenbashi.
Putin and Berdimuhamedov maintain regular contact. Their most recent phone conversation took place shortly before the meeting, when the Turkmen president personally congratulated Putin on his birthday the previous day.
Although the two leaders frequently speak by phone, they also use their face-to-face meetings to exchange views on current issues.
Putin’s previous visit to Turkmenistan took place less than a year ago. During that trip, he attended the major international forum “Peace and Trust: Unity of Goals for a Sustainable Future,” organized to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
