Canada, Türkiye Launch Free Trade Talks to Deepen Economic Ties

Canada and Türkiye have officially launched negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA), marking a significant step toward strengthening economic ties and expanding bilateral trade.

The announcement was made by the office of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, which confirmed that technical teams from both countries will begin work on defining the scope and ambition of the proposed agreement before the first formal round of negotiations, The Caspian Post reports via The Globe and Mail.

"The technical teams from both countries will undertake the necessary work to define the scope and ambition of the agreement and prepare for the first round of negotiations," the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.

The launch of formal negotiations follows an agreement reached last month between Canadian and Turkish trade ministers to begin exploratory discussions aimed at securing a comprehensive free trade deal.

If concluded, the agreement is expected to reduce trade barriers, boost investment, and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries, further strengthening economic cooperation between Canada and Türkiye amid growing global trade diversification efforts.
