Cemetery Shooting in Türkiye Leaves Ruling Party Member Dead

A member of Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), his son and nephew were killed in an armed attack at a cemetery in the city of Batman.

Mehmet Direk, a member of the district leadership of the AK Party, his son Ercan and his nephew Bekir were targeted at a cemetery in the Güneykent district, The Caspian Post reports via Cumhuriyet.

An unidentified individual or group opened fire on the three men, killing all of them at the scene.

Following the attack, police cordoned off the area and secured all entrances and exits to the cemetery.

The identities of the attackers and the motive behind the shooting remain unknown.
