Death Toll Rises to Five After Mine Collapse in Türkiye

The death toll from a mine collapse in Soma district of Türkiye’s Manisa Province has risen to five, with search and rescue operations now completed.

The bodies of two miners were found on October 1, after which rescue teams discovered three more workers dead beneath the rubble, according to TASS.

“Search and rescue operations following the collapse at the mine in Soma district have been completed. Three more miners who remained trapped under the rubble were found dead,” the Manisa provincial administration said.

Seven workers were inside the mine when the collapse occurred. Two miners were rescued from the rubble shortly after the incident.

Türkiye’s Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said an investigation into the cause of the collapse had been launched, with three prosecutors assigned to the case.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is also conducting a separate investigation into the incident.
