A freight train transporting gasoline derailed at Kochetovka-2 station in Russia’s Tambov Region, triggering a fire.
The incident occurred at 3:34 p.m. on February 4, according to Russian Railways (RZD), The Caspian Post reports, citing Russian media.
Preliminary reports indicate that no injuries were sustained.
Rail traffic through the station has been temporarily suspended, and eight southbound passenger trains have been delayed as a result of the derailment.
RZD said it has set up an emergency response team to manage the situation. Fire crews and recovery trains were dispatched to the site, and the cause of the derailment is currently under investigation.
Separately, Russia’s Western Investigative Committee confirmed that a criminal case has been opened for alleged violations of rail safety and operational regulations following the derailment and subsequent fire. Authorities said the number of casualties and the extent of material damage have yet to be determined.
