Gunman Kills Suspected Turkish Gang Leader Inside Spanish Hospital

A 35-year-old man suspected of leading the Turkish criminal group known as the “10 Brothers” has been shot dead inside a hospital in the Spanish city of Tarragona.

Mekin Büyükdeniz was killed at Joan XXIII Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment following an earlier assassination attempt, El Caso reports.

An unidentified gunman wearing a bicycle helmet and a hood entered the hospital, made his way into Büyükdeniz’s room, opened fire and fled the scene.

The shooting came just days after Büyükdeniz was wounded in an armed attack in the nearby city of Salou. He sustained gunshot wounds to his legs and was initially admitted to intensive care.

Two days before his death, he had been transferred to a regular hospital ward.

Police had initially provided security for the wounded man. However, surveillance was reportedly withdrawn after he arranged for a private bodyguard.

Catalonia’s police force is examining CCTV footage and tracing the suspect’s escape route. Investigators are also looking into a possible connection between the two attacks.
