Head of the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, has been killed in Moscow when a car bomb detonated under his vehicle.
The explosion occurred on Yasenyevaya Street on December 22 morning. Sarvarov died from the injuries sustained in the blast, The Caspian Post reports via the Russian Investigative Committee.
A criminal case has been opened under articles 105 and 222.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (murder committed by a particularly dangerous method; illegal handling of explosives).
Investigators are examining the scene, conducting forensic and explosive tests, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage. Multiple motive scenarios for the killing are being explored.
