Iran and Russia Begin Joint Naval Drills in Caspian Sea to Boost Maritime Security

Iranian and Russian naval forces launched a three-day joint exercise today in the Caspian Sea, aimed at enhancing maritime safety and strengthening regional cooperation.

Iranian and Russian naval forces commenced a three-day joint exercise in the Caspian Sea on Monday, according to Iranian media reports. This collaborative drill will include ships from the Iranian Army, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and the Russian Navy, The Caspian Post reports citing foreign media.

The exercise, named the “2025 Caspian Sea Combined Maritime Rescue Exercise,” will be observed by naval representatives from neighboring Caspian littoral states. The main objectives are to enhance maritime safety and security while promoting increased naval interaction between the participating countries.

Both Iran and Russia emphasize that this joint drill aims to strengthen coordination in maritime rescue operations and improve their readiness for emergencies at sea. The exercise will feature simulated rescue missions and collaborative response tactics.

Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently held a high-level meeting with Ali Larijani, senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader. Their discussions focused on regional security issues, including the evolving dynamics in the Caspian Sea and the importance of political stability in the Middle East.

Putin reiterated Russia’s support for diplomatic solutions and regional cooperation, highlighting ongoing efforts to work closely with Iran amid rising global tensions. Larijani shared Tehran’s perspective on recent developments and the necessity of strengthening bilateral relations with Russia.

The joint naval exercises demonstrate Tehran and Moscow’s commitment to deepening military cooperation in strategically significant regions such as the Caspian Sea. This collaboration is seen as a message of solidarity amid increasing geopolitical challenges.

As regional security remains fragile, such joint initiatives may contribute to enhanced stability and foster trust among Caspian Sea nations. Continued dialogue and military cooperation between Iran and Russia are likely to shape the broader security landscape in the near future.
