A flight traveling from Istanbul to Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport was diverted to Minsk International Airport due to security restrictions, Vnukovo Airport said.
“The flight from Istanbul was diverted to Minsk Airport, which served as an alternate airport,” the airport said. The aircraft had been scheduled to arrive in Moscow at 6:30 p.m. Moscow time, but its estimated arrival time is now 9:55 pm, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.
Vnukovo Airport had earlier said that 10 inbound flights were redirected to alternate airports during more than two hours of restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures.
Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) had previously announced temporary restrictions on arrivals and departures at Moscow’s Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports, stressing that the measures were introduced to ensure flight safety. The agency later said the restrictions at Vnukovo and Domodedovo had been lifted.
Rosaviatsiya also said Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport was operating arrivals and departures in coordination with the relevant authorities because of temporary restrictions on the use of airspace near the airport. The agency warned that flight schedules could be changed, noting that the measures were likewise implemented to ensure flight safety.
