Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport is experiencing widespread flight delays following an overnight drone attack near the Russian capital.

Passengers said that some have been waiting for more than five hours to depart, with flights being rescheduled multiple times, according to Ostorozhno, Novosti.

Around 20 departing flights and 27 arriving flights are currently delayed.

Vnukovo’s press service said late arrivals were linked to restrictions on the use of airspace in several Russian regions. Temporary restrictions on airspace in the Moscow region have also resulted in five-minute intervals between departures at the airport.

The airport and airlines are working to minimize disruption and passenger inconvenience.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said overnight that two drones had been shot down while approaching the capital. No flight restrictions were initially introduced at Vnukovo following those reports.

Meanwhile, a drone struck a Magnit supermarket in Pavlovsky Posad in the Moscow region. The blast wave damaged a nearby clinic, shattering 46 windows in its adult department and heavily damaging two medical offices.

The clinic’s children’s department was not affected and continues to operate normally, while only the physiotherapy department has been temporarily suspended.
