Between January and May of this year, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the most popular travel destination for tourists from Uzbekistan, according to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.
According to data, in the first five months of this year, Kyrgyzstan was visited for tourism purposes by 1 million 189 thousand 793 citizens of Uzbekistan. This figure is the highest among all foreign destinations, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.
In addition, Uzbeks most often traveled to Tajikistan (501 thousand), Kazakhstan (468 thousand), Saudi Arabia (145 thousand) and Russia (124 thousand).
In the first five months of this year, about 2.7 million citizens of Uzbekistan traveled abroad. This is 574 thousand more than in the same period last year, an increase of 26.4%.
According to experts, the choice of Uzbeks in favor of the nearest neighboring countries, especially Kyrgyzstan, is explained by geographical proximity, cultural ties and the possibility of visa-free entry.
