Poll: 56% of Ukrainians Back Territorial Concessions for Peace

A majority of Ukrainians would accept territorial concessions to Russia as part of a peace deal if Kyiv receives reliable security guarantees from the US and Europe.

The poll by Rating Group found that 56% of respondents support territorial concessions under such conditions, while another 3% would accept them regardless of the circumstances. Meanwhile, 35% oppose any territorial concessions to Russia, according to UNIAN.

When asked about the most realistic way to end the war, 57% favored seeking a compromise through negotiations involving other countries, while 26% supported direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Another 9% said Ukraine should abandon negotiations and continue fighting until all territories are liberated.

At the same time, 68% of respondents said any final decision on territories in exchange for peace should be made through a referendum. Another 17% said the decision should be made by the president, while 9% believe the issue should be handled by Ukraine’s parliament.

Regarding their preferred scenario for ending the war, 57% said fighting should first be stopped, followed by negotiations to seek a compromise. Another 13% said Ukraine should seek to restore its borders as of February 23, 2022, while 21% favored continuing until Crimea and Donbas are returned.
