Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is confident that Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom will launch the first power unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Türkiye in 2026, as planned.

“You set a task for our company Rosatom to launch the first unit this year. This is going to happen, the company is on schedule,” Putin said, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.

Putin arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Monday to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

On Tuesday, he held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. During the meeting, the two leaders highlighted energy cooperation, including the Akkuyu NPP project.
