Rosatom Seeks License Extension for Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant's First Unit

Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom plans to extend the operating license for the first unit of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and has already submitted the necessary documents for the extension, according to CEO Alexey Likhachev.

"Last December, the operating organization submitted documents for the extension. We have no doubt that we will fulfill all the requirements of Rostekhnadzor [Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Oversight of Russia] in this part, and I am confident that we will be able to extend it within the appointed time. The first unit first, then all subsequent ones," he said, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.

Likhachev noted that for Rosatom "there is no unknown space here."

"These are our thousand-strong reactors [VVER-1000 reactors]. Of course, it is very important to understand that we operate a number of the same reactors in the Russian Federation. Therefore, we have a high repair base, a base of spare parts," he added.
