Russia Expands Major Shahed Drone Production Site in Tatarstan

Russia is expanding its major Shahed drone production facility in Tatarstan, with new manufacturing sites, warehouses and transport infrastructure reportedly under construction.

The expansion is taking place at the Alabuga Polytech industrial complex. Based on satellite imagery, the area being developed covers more than 1,000 hectares, according to UNIAN.

The reported expansion is accompanied by new security measures around the production areas.

Two rings of towers are being constructed around the facilities, metal nets may be installed between them to protect the site from Ukrainian drone attacks.

Air defense positions are also reportedly being established nearby.

According to an assessment by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Alabuga currently produces more than 5,500 drones per month.

Ukrainian intelligence has reportedly said that Russian authorities aim to increase monthly production of Geran strike drones to 11,000 units.
