Russia Faces Drone Strikes Across Multiple Regions

Russia has been hit by a large-scale drone attack, with explosions reported across several regions and a fire breaking out at an oil refinery in Usman.

Penza city was among the first affected, with locals hearing five to seven explosions after 2 a.m. (GMT+2), accompanied by bright flashes in the sky and the hum of drones overhead, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

Early reports suggested a bearing plant or possibly the Biosintez pharmaceutical plant was targeted, though official confirmation is pending.

By 3 a.m., footage showed a large glow over Lipetsk, where drones reportedly struck the Usman oil refinery, causing a fire.

In Leningrad, authorities reportedly suppressed a drone using electronic warfare, with debris falling near Berezhki village and reportedly on a compressor station.

Other explosions were reported in Sterlitamak (Bashkortostan) and Tver, where a drone allegedly struck a residential building, though the exact targets remain unclear. Some reports suggest incidents may result from air defense or electronic warfare malfunctions.

Russian authorities have not officially confirmed most of the incidents, but the attacks are part of a recent surge in drone activity across the country. Earlier in January, strikes hit oil facilities in Krasnodar Territory and Tatarstan, and Moscow airports were closed on January 3-4, delaying around 200 flights due to drone threats.
