Russian forces have carried out a rare strike on western Ukraine on Christmas evening, targeting a critical infrastructure facility in Volyn region.
Ivan Rudnytskyi, head of the Volyn Regional Military Administration, said the attack occurred during an air raid alert on December 25. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the site to assess the damage, The Caspian Post reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Authorities confirmed no civilian casualties and said the situation remains under control.
“The strike hit a key facility vital to our region’s functioning,” Rudnytskyi said, describing it as part of ongoing pressure on civilian infrastructure. The full extent of the damage is still being evaluated.
Attacks in western Ukraine are uncommon, with Russian strikes usually targeting central and southern regions, Kyiv, and surrounding areas.
Elsewhere, on December 25, Russian forces struck the Zaporizhzhia district, dropping four guided bombs that damaged private homes and injured four elderly civilians, now receiving medical care. In Kyiv, a 48-year-old woman critically injured during a drone attack on December 23 died in hospital from severe shrapnel wounds.
