A Russian drone strike on the Ukrainian city of Marhanets killed a three-month-old boy and injured 11 others overnight.

The drones struck a high-rise residential building in the Dnipropetrovsk region, killing the infant and leaving seven of the injured in serious condition, regional military administration chief Oleksandr Hanzha said, RBC Ukraine reported.

Two children were among those wounded - a five-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.

The seven seriously injured victims were taken to hospital for treatment, authorities said.

Images released after the attack showed damage to the residential building and debris scattered around the area.

The latest strike comes as Marhanets, a city near the frontline, has faced a series of disruptions and attacks in recent weeks.

Earlier in August, the city was left without drinking water for several days following an accident involving a major water pipeline. Ukrainian officials said the response to the incident was inadequate and delayed, prompting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to announce the dismissal of the official responsible.

Water supplies were subsequently restored, while Ukraine’s prime minister warned authorities in frontline regions that they would be held personally responsible for maintaining backup systems.

Marhanets was also affected by a Russian attack on August 5 that left about 126,000 households across the Dnipropetrovsk region without electricity, including residents of Nikopol, Marhanets and Pokrov.

The latest attack underscores the continued danger facing civilians in Ukrainian communities close to the front line.
