A fifth-grade pupil reportedly wounded a teacher with a knife at a school in New Moscow, in the latest of several knife-related incidents reported at Russian schools over two days.

The incident took place at School No. 1392 named after Ryabinkin in the settlement of Maryino, according to Novaya Gazeta.

The pupil brought a knife into the school and injured a teacher. The teacher was hospitalized, but the injuries are not considered life-threatening. The child was detained.

School principal Denis Bakharev said the pupil, whom he described as having health-related special needs, attempted to attack a teacher with a bladed weapon before being restrained by security personnel. He said the teacher suffered superficial injuries and was receiving medical treatment.

Police officers are reportedly working at the school, while the administration has launched an internal investigation.

The incident is at least the third known knife-related attack at a Russian school since the beginning of the new academic year.

Earlier on September 2, a 14-year-old ninth-grade pupil at a school in Kushnarenkovo, Bashkortostan, reportedly stabbed a 15-year-old classmate several times. The injured teenager underwent emergency surgery and was reported to be in stable condition. The suspect was detained, and investigators opened a criminal case on suspicion of attempted murder.

A day earlier, a seventh-grade girl reportedly attacked teachers and pupils at School No. 2 in Kansk, Krasnoyarsk region. Seven people were injured, and the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case.
