Türkiye’s first floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) platform, Osman Gazi, is departing from the port of Filyos for its permanent operating location in the Black Sea.
The facility is expected to more than double daily gas production at the Sakarya gas field, increasing output from 9.5 million to 20 million cubic meters, TRT Haber reports.
The platform will be positioned offshore, approximately 170 kilometers from the Turkish coast. It measures 298.5 meters in length, 56 meters in width and 29.5 meters in depth. Designed for 20 years of continuous operation, Osman Gazi will have a crew of 140.
According to estimates, the additional gas production could generate output worth around $10 million per day, or approximately $3.5 billion annually.
Around 7,000 specialists took part in upgrading the platform at the port of Filyos. The work involved installing 642 kilometers of electrical cables and laying approximately 30 kilometers of pipelines.
The upgrades covered 21 topside processing units. Eleven were newly manufactured, including seven in Türkiye and four abroad, while the remaining 10 were adapted to handle the specific characteristics of gas from the Sakarya field.
A trial flare ignition and the burning of the first gas are planned by the end of 2026. Full-scale commercial production and the delivery of gas into Türkiye’s transmission network are scheduled to begin in early 2027.
Once operational, Osman Gazi is expected to play a major role in expanding Türkiye’s domestic natural gas production and strengthening its energy supply.
