A total of 178 suspects linked to 12 “new-generation” organized crime groups have been detained in simultaneous operations across 20 provinces in Türkiye.

The operation was carried out by the Istanbul Security Directorate, TRT Haber reports.

The raids took place on September 14 under the coordination of prosecutors’ offices in Istanbul, Bakırköy, Gaziosmanpaşa and the Anatolian side of Istanbul.

According to investigators, the criminal groups operated both nationally and internationally, with some led by individuals based abroad.

The suspects are accused of offenses including making threats, damaging property, endangering public safety and illegal weapons trafficking.

During searches, authorities seized an automatic pistol, four unregistered pistols, two shotguns, 207 rounds of ammunition, about 122 grams of drugs and a large amount of cash.

Following police procedures, all 178 suspects were referred to judicial authorities.
