Türkiye will introduce new rules prohibiting social media platforms from registering users under the age of 15 starting November 1, under a regulation issued by the Presidential Cybersecurity Office.
The document was published in the government’s Official Gazette, Resmi Gazete, on October 10, setting out new requirements for children’s access to online platforms, according to NTV.com.
Age verification will be conducted through Türkiye’s e-Devlet government services portal, without disclosing users’ personal data.
The regulation also introduces a special protected mode for teenagers over 15. Their accounts will automatically be switched to private settings.
In addition, these users will be prohibited from hosting live streams, receiving targeted advertising and getting messages from strangers.
Social media platforms must complete age verification for existing accounts by March 31, 2027.
Accounts belonging to users under 15 will be closed under the new rules.
