Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces successfully struck Russian Mi-28 and Mi-17 helicopters at a field landing strip in the Voronezh region, the forces' commander, Major Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, announced on Wednesday.
The operation targeted aircraft more than 150 kilometers from the frontline at a field landing strip housing four Russian helicopters undergoing refueling and inter-flight technical inspections, The Caspian Post reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Ukrainian drone operators navigated past the main rotor blades to deliver precise strikes directly to the rear central section of the engine compartments of two aircraft.
At least one Russian maintenance specialist was killed during the attack after being caught on the drone’s camera, according to Magyar.
The strike was executed by joint drone crews from the 429th Separate Brigade Achilles and the 43rd Separate Artillery Brigade. These units coordinated the attack in a jointly developed operation with the Special Operations Center A of the Security Service of Ukraine.
