Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate under the Ministry of Defense, has arrived in the US to participate in negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict.
Meetings with US officials are scheduled for the upcoming weekend, The Caspian Post reports via Russia media.
British journalist Oliver Carroll noted that General Budanov may lead the Ukrainian delegation in talks with representatives of the US government, according to The Economist correspondent.
"Gen Budanov on way to US, I'm told. Possibly as head of negotiation (TBC). Talks appear to be on. Trump not about to let Ukrainian woes get in the way of an unequal peace," he wrote in X.
Earlier reports had outlined the Ukrainian delegation for discussions with US president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff in Miami, with National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov initially expected to lead. Budanov’s visit could alter these plans.
Previously, the Ukrainian intelligence chief held meetings with Russian representatives in Abu Dhabi, signaling ongoing diplomatic and intelligence efforts to address the conflict.
