Wildberries Among Russian Websites Blocked in Latvia

Access to the Russian online marketplace Wildberries will be restricted in Latvia.

The decision concerns Wildberries.ru, one of the largest e-commerce platforms in Russia, according to a statement issued by the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP), The Caspian Post reports, citing Delfi.

According to the NEPLP, Wildberries.ru offers products featuring symbols associated with Russia, the Soviet Union, and Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The regulator also decided to restrict access in Latvia to several other Russian internet resources, including "companies.rbc.ru," "www.championat.com," "www.labirint.ru," "www.sovsport.ru," "www.livelib.ru," "v1.ru," and "ast.ru."

In its decision, the NEPLP stated that these websites distribute content that justifies Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, legitimizes Russian control over annexed Ukrainian territories, and promotes positive perceptions of Russia. The council said such content could threaten Latvia’s information environment and national security.

The regulator further ordered that mirror versions of the affected websites also be blocked. Internet service providers have been instructed to immediately restrict access and redirect users to an informational notice on the website "nelegalssaturs.lv."

The decision can be appealed before the Administrative District Court within one month. However, submitting an appeal will not suspend the enforcement of the restrictions.
