A well-known Kazakh sportsman has died following a traffic accident.
Ilya Burtovoy, a 30-year-old futsal player for the Elim-ai Kokshetau team and coach of the Scout children's football club, died in Karaganda after a serious road crash, The Caspian Post repots, citing Kazakh media.
The fatal accident occurred on June 6 on the first kilometer of a highway near the village of Dubovka in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region.
According to the regional Police Department's press service, preliminary information indicates that the young driver may have been responsible for the crash.
“According to preliminary reports, the 21-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Cobalt lost control of the vehicle and entered the oncoming lane, where it collided with an Opel Vectra driven by a 44-year-old man,” police said.
The collision was extremely severe. As a result, the driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt and his two passengers, including Ilya Burtovoy, sustained serious injuries of varying degrees.
Burtovoy later died from the injuries he suffered in the accident.
