Construction has begun in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on a 340-meter skyscraper that is expected to become the tallest building in Central Asia once completed.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Dushanbe Mayor and Chairman of the National Assembly Rustam Emomali laid the foundation stone for the new multifunctional architectural complex in the capital’s Shohmansur district, Zakon.kz reports.

The project is scheduled to be completed within five years.

The complex will cover approximately 29 hectares and include 52 facilities, among them five high-rise towers. Its centerpiece will be Dushanbe Tower, a 340-meter building with 77 floors.

Once completed, Dushanbe Tower will surpass the current regional record holder, Abu Dhabi Plaza in Astana, which stands at 311 meters and has 75 floors.

At 29 meters taller, the new Dushanbe landmark is poised to take the title of Central Asia’s tallest skyscraper, marking a major addition to the Tajik capital’s rapidly developing skyline.
